Shopify Flow

Run workers from Shopify Flow workflows

Bound adds a Run worker action to Shopify Flow, so any workflow can call one of your workers and use its response in later steps.

Configuring the action

The action has two fields:

  • Worker name — the handle of the worker to run. It must exist and be published (drafts are rejected).
  • Body (optional) — the request body sent to the worker. Use Flow template variables like {{ order.id }} to pass trigger data through.

Using the response

The worker’s response body is returned to Flow as the action’s output, available to later workflow steps as a variable (for example {{ runWorker.body }}).

Flow only persists an action’s output when a later step references it. A workflow that ends at the Run worker step shows “No data returned” in the run log even when the worker succeeded — add a step that uses the output to see it.

Response bodies are truncated at 45 KB — Flow treats larger action responses as failures and retries them, so keep worker responses small.

Retries

Failed runs (5xx responses) are retried by Flow. Retries are deduplicated by Bound, so a retry after a lost response returns the original result instead of running the worker twice. A 400 response is a permanent failure and is shown to you in the workflow run log.
